The Andhra Pradesh Education Department’s tableau clinched the third prize in the People’s Choice category during the Republic Day parade in New Delhi, part of the 75th Republic Day festivities.

The awards, honouring the best tableau in both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice categories, were announced and presented on Tuesday, 30 January.

The event — attended by French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest — featured 16 tableaux from various states and Union Territories, along with nine from Union ministries and departments.

The winning tableau

Andhra Pradesh’s tableau highlighted the theme of “Transforming School Education in Andhra Pradesh — Making Students Globally Competitive”.

It showcased the education reforms undertaken by the incumbent government in Andhra Pradesh. The tableau depicted the transformation of the medium of education, transitioning from Telugu to Hindi and then to English.

The front part of the tableau displayed an old-fashioned village classroom with students using slates, while the rear depicted modern play school concepts alongside a science lab and students with tablets.

The tableau also featured a digital classroom with interactive panels, smart TVs displaying bilingual textbooks, science articles, mathematical instruments, and English labs.

A 55-second theme song composed by Telugu music director Sashi Preetam accompanied the tableau during the parade.
