Synopsis: The Andhra Pradesh police conducted searches at the home of YouTuber and political commentator Prashna Raavan in Hyderabad following his arrest and judicial remand. The police reportedly confiscated electronic items such as laptops and storage devices.

The Andhra Pradesh police on Wednesday, 9 July, conducted searches at the home of YouTuber and political commentator B Joseph alias Prashna Raavan in Hyderabad following his arrest and judicial remand in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Officers from Gannavaram Police Station in Andhra Pradesh visited his home on Wednesday evening. According to Team Prashna, Raavan’s wife, B Anusha, was present during the raids. The raid went on till the late hours of Wednesday.

The police reportedly confiscated electronic items such as laptops and storage devices.

Raavan was remanded to judicial custody by the Gannavaram Additional Junior Civil Court on 5 July following his arrest on 4 July.

After the YouTuber secured bail in four cases registered against him at different police stations across the state, he was arrested for the fifth time by the Gannavaram police on the night of 4 July.

‘Confiscated wife’s phone’

Team Prashna told South First that the police personnel confiscated Anusha’s phone. They shared that they became suspicious after not being able to reach Anusha on Wednesday.

“We were unable to contact her. So we took the help of a ride-hailing executive who video-called us from the premises. We saw that multiple police personnel were present. We only found out about the raids late last night,” they said.

Further details about the searches are awaited.

Raavan is currently lodged at the Nellore Central Prison following his court-ordered judicial remand for 14 days.

The FIR against Raavan, registered at Gannavaram Police Station in the Krishna district, invoked Sections 147, 148, 152, 192, 197(1)(d), and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 13 and 39 of the UAPA.

The charges encompass offences including criminal conspiracy, threats to public order, acts threatening the sovereignty and integrity of India, support for unlawful activities, and support for a terrorist organisation.

The most serious charge is under Section 147 of the BNS, which criminalises waging war against the Government of India, attempting to wage war, or abetting the waging of war. The offence is punishable with death or imprisonment for life, in addition to a fine.
