Krishank Manne was arrested for allegedly circulating fake letters.

BRS social media convenor Krishank Manne was on Wednesday, 1 May, arrested by the East Zone of Hyderabad City Police in an alleged forgery case. He was taken into custody at the Panthangi tollgate while travelling from Kothagudem to Hyderabad.

Hours before his arrest, Krishank shared videos of police intercepting his vehicle, questioning the action.

Hyderabad City Police DCP (East Zone) R Giridhar told South First that Krishank had been accused of circulating a ‘fake letter’ attributed to the chief warden of Osmania University (OU) and another letter — ostensibly from Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy — regarding the closure of OU hostels.

BRS leaders announced late on Wednesday evening that they would meet Krishank.

In the remand report, police said, “This is a case of document forgery for the purpose of cheating with intention to harm all the reputable political parties and posting the same in social media.”

The police explained that action was taken on the basis of complaint that a fake notice regarding the closure of Osmania University Hostels and Messes was being circulated on social media. “The message is false and it is damaging the reputation of the University. Hence, the complaint requested to stop the circulation of the fake message and take action against the person for spreading the fake message,” the remand report said.

Krishank Manne has been booked under sections 466, 468, 469, 505 (1) (c) Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Family raised concerns after Krishank’s posts

It all started when Krishank on his X handle at 12.43 pm on Wednesday posted a video saying that while returning to Hyderabad from Kothagudem to participate in the press conference of KT Rama Rao, police had stopped him at Panthangi Checkpost. “From the last 30 minutes instead of checking the vehicle, they have made us stand saying higher officials will come”, he said.

Three minutes later, Krishank posted a photo from inside his car stating “Crime Inspector Chotuppal sitting in our car and taking us to Chotuppal police station. Don’t Know Why?”

Almost three hours after this tweet, Krishank’s wife Suhasini took to X and said that he has not been taken to Chotuppal Police Station. “He hasn’t reached here. The police stopped the others who were with Krishank from following them. What is the need to take him alone and not let others follow? He hasn’t reached Osmania University PS, he isn’t at Central Crime Station (CCS), then where have they taken him?”, she said.

The advocate representing Krishank, speaking with media said that the case filed against Krishank Manne is false.

BRS party MLA K T Rama Rao wrote on X, “Krishank’s arrest is atrocious and illegal! Krishank is the voice of people’s movements, a symbol of Dalit consciousness, and a reflection of youth. Krishank is arrested only because he questioned gully Congress party’s failures and Delhi BJP’s oppressions. Congress and BJP will pay a heavy price for their joint witch hunt. These dictatorial acts will be punished in Telangana people’s court. Then, we saw emergency. Now, we are witnessing an undeclared emergency. The Congress-BJP will meet the same fate as faced by the then rulers for their onslaught on democracy. Our legal team is pursuing the matter and we will make sure justice will prevail.”
