As many as three five-star hotels in Bengaluru received bomb threats, police sources said on Thursday, 23 May.

The hotels reportedly received the threat via email, leading to exhaustive search operations. It later turned out to be a hoax, they said.

“The Oterra Hotel in Electronic City received a bomb threat at around 2 am on Thursday. The threat email was received to the hotel’s official email,” DCP South East Bengaluru CK Baba told South First.

“The hotel staff alerted the police in the wee hours. The police rushed to the spot with a bomb disposal squad. Prima facie, it was a hoax email. We are registering the complaint under non-cognizable offence,” stated the DCP.

“We are tracing the roots of this threat email. It will take some days to ascertain the details. The probe is underway,” he added.

The threat comes against the backdrop of a bomb blast in Rameshwaram Cafe in the city on 1 March.
