The recent regulatory decisions by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on A1 and A2 milk labelling have sparked a national debate.

On 21 August 2024, the FSSAI ordered food businesses and e-commerce platforms to remove “misleading” claims about A1 and A2 milk from their packaging.

Just five days later, on 26 August, the FSSAI reversed this order, calling for further consultation. This back-and-forth has raised questions about the science behind A1 and A2 milk, their impact on health, consumer choices, and the dairy industry.
