On Thursday, supporters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India showed up in pug costumes and oxygen masks in Bengaluru to warn citizens that foreign brachycephalic dogs (those with short skulls and flat faces) such as pugs, struggle to breathe and can even require surgery for serious respiratory problems. The campaign also urged people to always adopt a desi dog from an animal shelter instead of contributing to the suffering of these breeds by buying them from pet stores and breeders.
