‘The Famous Five’ of Kottayam track down stolen phones

Five friends from Kottayam turned amateur sleuths to track down their stolen mobile phone and ended up recovering five more stolen phones.

Govind, one of the youths, said his aunt’s phone was stolen and the police sounded helpless to track it down.

Govind and his friends launched what’s come to be known in the local media as ‘Operation Smartphone’.

While the phone had not been switched off, the youths used a tracking app and traced it to a wooded area in Kurichy.

They were surprised to find their phone and five others at the hideout abandoned by the thieves.
