Tamil Nadu shopkeeper arrested for practicing untouchability

He refused to sell candies to Dalit students and recorded the video as proof for obeying his community's decision to ostracise Dalits.

Sankarankoil police arrested Maheswaran, a shopkeeper, for practising untouchability in Panjankulam near Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, on Monday, 19 September. Reportedly, Maheswaran refused to sell candy to Dalit students. The incident happened on Friday and the shopkeeper recorded the video as proof of obeying his community’s decision to ostracise the Dalits.
