The Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government in Karnataka has proposed to scrap reservation for Muslims under the OBC category without a detailed study or empirical data, despite several commissions pointing to socio-economic, educational backwardness and inadequate political representation among the group.

Ahead of Karnataka Elections 2023 BJP has taken away the quota from Muslims and divided it between Vokkaligas and Lingayats.
