Rapido bike taxi under scanner after Bengaluru gang rape

Bike taxi service provider Rapido has come under the scanner of authorities in Karnataka over a lack of verification process for their agents.

The recent incident of a Rapido agent allegedly sexually assaulting a woman customer in Bengaluru has exposed the absence of background checks of any criminal antecedents.

Applicants upload their scanned documents on a website or app and get designated as Rapido Captains.

While Rapido maintains they have a verification process in place, the state Transport Department has cautioned that no permission has been given for such operations.

The matter is pending before the High Court.
