A day after the Vizhinjam anti-port protests turned violent leaving several policemen injured and their vehicles torched, an all-party peace meeting will be held on Monday, 28 November.

Police have registered cases against several hundred protestors on charges of rioting and unlawful assembly.

On Sunday, protestors took out a march against the detention of some activists.

Protests turned violent when they attacked personnel at the Vizhinjam police station and ransacked the place.

The anti-port protests have been on for over 100 days now and the agitation by the local fishing community is being led by the Latin Catholic Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram.
