MK Stalin launches free breakfast scheme for government primary school students in Tamil Nadu

Over 1.16 lakh school kids of Classes 1 to 5 from 1,545 government schools would be served free breakfast daily through the scheme.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Thursday, 15 September, launched the free breakfast scheme for government primary school students in the state. He launched the scheme in Madurai. 

Free breakfast would be provided daily for classes 1 to 5 in 1,545 government schools are part of the scheme and over 1.16 lakh children are estimated to benefit from it. 

As part of the launch programme, the chief minister fed food to school children and interacted with them. 

The Tamil Nadu government took this step to reduce dropouts belonging to poor and underprivileged families. It is aimed to improve nutrition levels among the children of the economically disadvantaged sections. 

Speaking on the occasion, Stalin said that the scheme would improve students learning skills and that it aims to alleviate the burden of hunger in children during any financial crisis in the families.
