The Bengaluru-Hosur Road was chock-a-block with traffic following massive protests by villagers in Krishnagiri.
Traffic came to a standstill for several hours with protestors clashing with the police over being denied permission to hold Jallikattu.
Several policemen were injured as the violent mob pelted stones.
Over 15 policemen were injured and several private vehicles were damaged.
With the highway blocked, it had a cascading effect beyond Hosur in Tamil Nadu into Karnataka.
