In an exclusive conversation with South First, Congress senior leader K Jayaprakash Hegde, former chairman of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, discusses the significance of the upcoming Socio-Economic and Educational Survey (caste census) to be unveiled by the Siddaramaiah government.
Hegde, who oversaw its submission in February 2024, highlights its importance for accurate data on reservations and government benefits while addressing opposition from key communities like the Vokkaligas and Lingayats.
He calls for meaningful dialogue on the findings and dismisses claims that the survey was unscientific.
Hegde also discusses Congress’ challenges in coastal Karnataka and the party’s strategy to rebuild grassroots support, engage with local communities, and address land reform issues to regain voter trust.
