The BJP in Karnataka was left red-faced after its sitting MLA Madal Virupakshappa’s son was trapped in a major bribery case.
The Lokayukta seized over ₹8 crore from KAS officer Prashanth Madal’s office and residence.
Prashanth, the chief accountant at Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹80 lakh for a tender to supply raw materials to the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL).
Prashant’s father Virupakshappa was the KSDL Chairman.
While Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai claimed the Lokayukta was an independent agency and blamed Congress for the corruption, Virupakshappa said the raids were a political conspiracy against him and his family.
He resigned as Chairman of KSDL.
Congress demanded the sacking of Virupakshappa from the BJP.
