Tension gripped Coimbatore as police arrested 300 BJP workers for staging a protest outside the police station on Wednesday, 21 September. The BJP workers protested the arrest of party district president Balaji Utham Ramasamy on charges of sleazy comments against DMK MP A Raja and Periyar. Balaji made sleazy comments against Raja and Periyar on Sunday and dared Raja to step inside the city without police protection. He also warned DMK leaders about talking against Manusmriti. The Peelamedu police arrested and remanded him in judicial custody today. In protest, the BJP workers, on Wednesday, burnt an effigy of Raja as part of their protests.
