DK Shivakumar is expanding his Cabinet two months after he was sworn in on 3 June.
Synopsis: The Cabinet expansion came exactly two months after Shivakumar was sworn in as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka, along with 13 ministers, on 3 June. With the expansion, the Cabinet now has 33 ministers.
Twenty new ministers will be inducted into Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar-led Cabinet on Monday, 3 August. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will administer them the oath of secrecy and office at 4 pm at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan.
The surprise inclusion is Gayathri Shanthegowda, who the Supreme Court had declared elected from the Chikkamagaluru Local Authorities’ Constituency on 16 July. Her election came after the court disqualified BJP MLC MK Pranesh, who was elected to the Legislative Council in December 2021.
Gayathri Shanthegowda will the lone woman minister in the Shivakumar-led Cabinet.
Others in the expanded Cabinet are PM Narendraswamy, Shivaraj Tangadagi, Rudrappa Lamani, KS Basavanthappa, B Nagendra, T Raghumoorthy, BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, Rizwan Arshad, Santosh Lad, Madhu Bangarappa, Putturangashetty, Mankala Vaidya, Dr Ajay Singh, N Chaluvaraya Swamy, KM Shivalinge Gowda, HC Balakrishna, Basavaraj Rayareddi, Vijayanand Kashappanavar and Laxman Savadi.
The AICC officially announced the list of ministers on Monday.

G Parameshwara, KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byre Gowda, Priyanka Kharge, UT Khader, Eshwar Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil were the ministers who took the oath of secrecy and office along with Shivakumar.
Incidentally, Gayathri Shanthegowda is the lone woman in the Shivakumar-led Cabinet.
The Supreme Court, on 16 July, set aside the election of BJP MLC MK Pranesh from the Chikkamagaluru Local Authorities’ Constituency and declared Congress candidate AV Gayathri Shanthegowda as the duly elected member, allowing her appeal against a Karnataka High Court judgment that had upheld Pranesh’s victory.
The dispute arose from the December 2021 Karnataka Legislative Council election, in which Pranesh was declared elected by a margin of six votes. Gayathri Shanthegowda challenged the result, alleging improper rejection and acceptance of ballot papers, irregularities in counting, and violations of election rules.
The Karnataka High Court had dismissed her election petition in January 2025. However, the Supreme Court allowed her appeal after examining the disputed ballots and the counting process, and instead of ordering a fresh election, declared Gayathri Shanthegowda elected.
The judgment also increases the Congress’ strength in the 75-member Karnataka Legislative Council to 40 members, further consolidating the ruling party’s majority in the Upper House.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have restricted vehicular traffic on certain stretches between 2 pm and 8 pm, in view of the swearing in ceremony on Monday.
