Black flag-waving Youth Congress workers managed to get close to Amit Shah's convoy.
Synopsis: Despite elaborate security arrangements following intelligence reports of possible protests, the Youth Congress activists managed to stage the demonstration. BJP workers also confronted the protesters during the incident, with the two sides reportedly coming to blows.
Police detained five Youth Congress activists for staging a black-flag protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Keralam’s Kollam on Saturday, 26 September.
The protesters, led by Youth Congress state vice president Binu Chulliyil, waved black flags as Shah’s convoy moved from the helipad at Ashramam Ground. The protest was against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continuing in office.
“Modi and Shah used their pawn Gyanesh Kumar to butcher the electoral process, steal the people’s vote and commit treason against Indian citizens.
They thought nobody would dare point to the mastermind. IYC workers just did,” the organisation posted on X.
Some activists rushed towards the convoy, prompting police to intervene.
Five protesters, including Chulliyil, were taken into custody and removed from the spot.

Shah is in Kollam to attend the ‘Prosperity through Cooperation’ (Sahkar Se Samriddhi) programme at the Pavithram Convention Centre, Mulavana, Kundara, held as part of the International Year of Women Farmers observance.
He will inaugurate an initiative led by women in the district’s cooperative sector.
Shah is later scheduled to travel by helicopter to Amritapuri to participate in the birthday celebrations of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi and inaugurate the ‘Vishwa Seva Dina’ (Global Service Day) events.
