Synopsis: Hinting that he knows about foreigners supporting Modi, Gandhi dared the Prime Minister to a debate and asked him to choose the stage and date. The challenge came a day after the INDIA bloc’s rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, 2 November, accused Narendra Modi of becoming Prime Minister and remaining in office with foreign help, and challenged him to an open debate on the issue.
Posting the challenge on X, Gandhi said Modi could choose the stage and time.
“Mr Modi, stop lying to this nation.
You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help.
Your financial system is fully controlled and supported by foreigners. Foreign social media fully backs you,” the Congress leader said, while asking the Prime Minister to take up the challenge “if you have the guts”.
Gandhi added that Modi would not dare to accept the challenge, “because you are terrified of what I know about you.”
However, he did not specify which foreign force.
Mr Modi, stop lying to this nation.
You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help.
Your financial system is fully controlled and supported by foreigners. Foreign social media fully backs you.
I challenge you to an open debate about this. Any stage, any time. Come if you have the guts.
You won’t dare, because you are terrified of what I know about you.
The Opposition leader threw the challenge at Modi a day after an Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. Addressing the rally, Gandhi said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would face the law for irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls that allegedly stripped the voting rights of several crores of people.
Hitting back at the rally, the BJP said on Sunday, 1 November, that the Congress was protecting infiltrators, saying three crore such people were living in India.
“Under no circumstances will infiltrators be allowed to enjoy the rights meant for the citizens of India,” BJP national president Nitin Nabin said in Haryana’s Rohtak.
