Tension prevailed for some time when the police arrested YSR Telangana Party president Sharmila while she was on her padayatra in Warangal district on Monday, 28 November.

She was arrested and whisked away to Hyderabad on grounds of the padayatra creating tension.

TRS workers tried to disrupt her padayatra at Jalli in Chennaraopet Mandal. They were incensed over the objectionable comments she had made against MLA Peddireddy Sudarshan Reddy at a public meeting in Narsampet on Sunday, 27 November.

The workers went on a rampage, tore down flex boards and set fire to a bus in her convoy. Those on the bus rushed out, while the driver put out the flames and saved the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

The police arrested the TRS activists, including MPP Vijender, sarpanch Kumaraswamy, and local leader Chenna Reddy.

Taking serious exception to her arrest, Sharmila burst out at the TRS government. She alleged that the TRS government was creating a law and order problem as an excuse to arrest her.

Sharmila said she was the only leader fighting on behalf of the people while all other opposition leaders were whiling away time.

She said it was inhuman on the part of the government to arrest her at a time when she had taken all clearances from the police department.

“The government is using the police force to stifle my voice and prevent me from exposing its misdeeds,” she said.
