Parents of students in Telangana got into a heated argument with hospital officials and cops over alleged worm-infested breakfast.

Hospitalised students in Telangana were reportedly served worm-infested breakfast
About 15 students of the ZP High School in Narayanpet, Telangana were admitted to the Mahbubnagar Government Hospital on the night of Wednesday, 20 November after showing symptoms of food poisoning. Now, hospital administration and officials are in hot water, after reports that breakfast served to some students in the morning of Thursday, 21 November, contained worms.
The students at the ZP High School fell ill after eating their mid-day meal. After students – including boys and girls ranging from Class 6 to 10 – complained of severe stomach pain and vomiting, they were rushed to a hospital in Maganoor for first aid.
Students who suffered from suspected food poisoning had rice with sambar and eggs for lunch. The school has a strength of 450 students.
In an attempt probably to save face and as a damage control exercise, officials placed the school’s headmaster, Muralidhar Reddy and mid-day meal in-charge Babu Reddy under suspension. Additionally, the contract signed with the supplier of the meal was cancelled.
Students with food poisoning symptoms were first taken to a local hospital by school staff where first aid was administered. They were then taken to the Government Hospital in Makthal and then eventually shifted to the one in Mahbubnagar district late on the night of 20 November.
In videos that have started going viral on social media, one of the sick patients is seen saying that the breakfast he was served contained worms. “I noticed the worms only after almost finishing the breakfast,” he said.
Worm-infested food reportedly served to students, particularly ones already suffering from food poisoning, has drawn the ire of parents. Opposition leaders have also criticised the Telangana Congress government over the allegation.
Upon hearing about worms in food, parents entered into questioned hospital officials and police, which resulted in a heated argument. They charged at concerned authorities asking if there was “no end to their carelessness.”
When cops tried to send away the parents, argument turned into a verbal spat with parents fuming over having to helplessly witness their kids suffering.
Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy ordered an inquiry into the incident after being informed about said allegations. He also instructed the officials to ensure minor students receive best possible medical care.
Asking the District Collector to take stringent action against those responsible for worm-infested food and suspend the concerned people if they were found to be negligent in their duty.
He also asked all District Collectors to ensure there is no compromise in quality when it comes to providing nutritious food to students and that such an incident doesn’t repeat again.
Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised the CM for not serving decent food to students.
KT Rama Rao charged at the CM over the Congress government’s recent announcement to empower women to become crorepathis when students’ essential needs aren’t met.
He took to X to to criticse the state government’s recent actions and alleged that several students at Gurukula schools have died during the Congress regime.

Meanwhile, BRS leader T Harish Rao too took to X to share similar sentiments. Asking if schools in Telangana had become death traps, he wrote, “Students would be thankful to God if they can get out alive, leave alone learning anything in schools.”
