A woman conductor of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district suffered serious leg injuries on Sunday, 25 October, after a passenger allegedly pushed her out of a moving bus during an argument over change after a ticket purchase.

The conductor, Pravalika, is attached to the Manuguru depot. She was on duty on a Palle Velugu bus headed from Manuguru to Bhadrachalam when the incident occurred.

Reports suggest that the passenger, identified as Mounika, handed over a ₹100 note for her son’s half ticket, which cost ₹10. With no change at hand, Pravalika asked her to collect the remaining ₹90 later.

When Mounika later demanded the change and the conductor said she still could not return it, the argument escalated. The passenger then pushed Pravalika off the bus, leading to the rear bus wheel running over her legs.

Pravalika was rushed to the Government Area Hospital in Bhadrachalam. Aswapuram police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the bus driver.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar condemned the assault in a post on X on Sunday night. He directed officials to file cases and take stringent action under the law against anyone who attacks crew on duty. He also instructed them to make sure Pravalika receives the best medical care and that steps are taken to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

Appealing to commuters, the minister said bus crews work tirelessly to take people safely to their destinations and deserve courteous treatment. He said grievances should be taken to officials, as violence is no way to settle disputes.
