BRS working president and Telangana MLA KT Rama Rao on Thursday, 15 August, speaking to the party cadre in Hyderabad refuted the media reports of BRS merging with the BJP.
KTR’s comments come at a time when speculations have been rife about the impending merger. While the unconfirmed reports have been doing rounds for quite some time, a Telugu TV report claiming that the merger has been finalised was put out a week back.
On Thursday, recalling that his sister and former MLC, K Kavitha had been in jail for 150 days, KTR claimed if the BRS was in cahoots with the BJP, she would not be in jail.
“As the party working president and Kavitha’s elder brother, won’t I meet the lawyers and inquire about the possibility of bail?”, he questioned, adding, “If it takes time, won’t I take time to resolve the issue? As an elder brother, shouldn’t I stand with my sister and not let her lose faith?”
Further dismissing the claims and reports, KTR reiterated that despite Kavitha being arrested BRS is fighting, “Why would the daughter of our family be in jail if the reports were true.”
Kavitha has been accused of conspiring with the “South Group” and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and made payment of ₹100 crore as kickbacks to the AAP in return for liquor licences.
The investigation agencies accused Kavitha of playing a role in the transfer of the money to Goa through Hawala routes for use in elections by the AAP in 2022.

Promising to build the party, KTR claimed, “The party is 24 years old, we will prepare the party to fight for more than 50 years.”

However, this is not the first time, KTR has refuted the merger claims, following the TV report, KTR took to X on 7 August, to condemn the claims.
Without naming the channel, KTR cautioned, “To those spreading baseless rumours with hidden agendas, let this be your final warning. Publish a rejoinder to your malicious lies against the BRS, or face legal action.”
Claiming that BRS will always work for the people of Telangana, KTR wrote, “BRS will continue to serve the people of Telangana as it has been for over two decades. We fall, we rise, and we fight solely for Telangana! We will never bow down. Not now, not ever! Jai Telangana!”
Further stating that the party has stood against propaganda and lies for 24 years, he said, “And yet, we prevailed. We fought tirelessly, and we achieved and built a state that has become a beacon of progress and pride. A state that others aspire to emulate. Because millions of hearts beat together for one identity and emotion —Telangana!”
