The Chief Minister presently holds 11 unassigned portfolios.
Synopsis: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has denied that his recent visit to Delhi was to discuss the allocation of portfolios to the newly inducted ministers, stating instead that he went to brief the Karnataka government on Telangana’s caste census methodology. He also firmly rejected rumours of BRS MLC K Kavitha joining the Congress.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, 11 June, dismissed speculation that his visit to Delhi was aimed at finalising the allotment of portfolios to the newly inducted ministers.
Speaking to reporters in an informal interaction before returning to Hyderabad, Reddy said that the unallocated portfolios – currently under his charge – would be distributed soon.
He presently holds 11 unassigned portfolios, including key departments such as home, education, and municipal administration.
After months of foot-dragging, the government expanded the cabinet last week.
“I will allocate the portfolios after discussing with the newly inducted ministers,” he said.
The Chief Minister clarified that his primary purpose in visiting Delhi was to brief the Karnataka government on Telangana’s caste census methodology.
“I spent two to two-and-a-half hours detailing how the caste census was conducted in Telangana to the Karnataka Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister,” he said.
A day earlier, a high-level meeting convened by the Congress central leadership in Delhi saw the participation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and party general secretaries KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala.
After the meeting, Shivakumar announced plans to reconduct Karnataka’s caste survey.
Telangana had successfully conducted it’s own survey earlier this year.
The Chief Minister also rejected rumours suggesting that Telangana Jagruthi President and Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC K Kavitha might join the Congress.
“There is no entry for Kavitha into the Congress as long as I am here. The Kalvakuntla family are demons eating into the vitals of Telangana,” he said.
Kavitha is currently engaged in a protracted battle with the senior leadership of the BRS. Despite her repeated proclamations of allegiance to her father and party supremo K Chandrashekar Rao, speculation is rife that she may either form her own party or join the Congress.
He further compared Kavitha’s political conduct to a theatrical performance, referencing the Telugu film Assembly Rowdy.
In an unrelated note, Reddy took aim at Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy and accused him of neglecting development projects in Telangana.
“Kishan Reddy hasn’t even held a review meeting with officials on the status of projects in Telangana. He’s obstructing progress at the Delhi level,” he alleged.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to hold a press conference within two to three days to present documents related to the alleged Kaleshwaram scam.
“I will make all the documents public,” he said.
