KTR takes up Revanth Reddy on Debate Challenge
Synopsis: A day after the Congress’ “Samvidhan Bachao” rally at LB Stadium, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao launched a scathing counterattack, accusing the Congress of betraying Telangana’s farmers. At a press conference, KTR challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to a public debate, giving him 72 hours to prepare and inviting him to face off on July 8 at Somajiguda Press Club
A day after the Congress’ “Samvidhan Bachao” rally at LB Stadium, where party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed thousands of cadre, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) hit back with sharp criticism and a direct challenge to the Chief Minister.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, KTR accused the Congress of failing Telangana’s farmers and challenged Revanth Reddy to a public debate on the issue. “I’m giving you 72 hours to prepare. Let’s debate wherever, whenever. We’ll be at the Somajiguda Press Club at 11 am on July 8. We’ll leave a chair empty for you,” he said, adding that the BRS is ready to defend its record.
KTR claimed that no government in independent India had done as much for farmers as the KCR-led BRS government. “Even professors at Oxford were impressed by our schemes,” he said, referring to his recent speech at the Oxford Union. He questioned whether the Congress had fulfilled its Rythu Declaration, a set of promises made by Rahul Gandhi to farmers during the election campaign.

KTR cautions that Congress might skip Rythu Bharosa post-elections
KTR, however, asserted that the Congress had misled the state. “Everyone knows who did what for farmers. You’d be called a fool if you speak without knowing. You’d be called Revanth Reddy if you speak despite knowing the truth,” he said, taking a jibe at the Chief Minister’s claims.
Responding to a question on the Chief Minister’s claims of winning 100 legislators and 15 parliamentary seats in the next elections, the BRS leader predicted a poor performance for the Congress in the upcoming local polls. “There’s no way Revanth will win 100 seats in the next Assembly elections. Even the local body elections will be tough for the Congress,” he said, accusing the Chief Minister of acting as a proxy for Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu.
“Why would the masses vote for you?” he asked, stating that the public had not truly benefited from any of Congress’s actions in the past 18 months.
KTR also accused the government of failing to supply fertilisers to farmers and of diverting Telangana’s water and resources to Andhra Pradesh and Delhi. “Revanth Reddy is giving water to Andhra, money to Delhi, and jobs to his close aides,” he alleged.
Concluding his attack, KTR warned farmers to stay vigilant, claiming that schemes like Rythu Bandhu could be scrapped after elections. “There isn’t a single section of society in Telangana that hasn’t been betrayed by this government,” he said.
