Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress-led People’s Government is now striving to realise the dreams of all sections of society, particularly students, youngsters, farmers, women, and oppressed castes.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday, 26 April, invited all delegates at the Bharat Summit to join hands with the state government in bringing a transformative change to people’s lives.

Speaking during the plenary session on the concluding day of the two-day Bharat Summit in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy urged delegates to share their experiences, knowledge and skills with Telangana and become ambassadors of the “Telangana Rising” brand. He called on everyone present to showcase the greatness of Telangana to the world.

Highlighting Telangana’s unique history, Revanth Reddy said the state is blessed with a rich cultural and traditional heritage.

‘Distribute wealth to the poor’

The chief minister recalled how the people of Telangana, who were part of the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh, fought for decades to achieve statehood, with active participation from students, trade unions, farmers and women. Their relentless struggle eventually bore fruit, culminating in the formation of Telangana. However, he pointed out that the aspirations of the people remained unfulfilled during the ten years of rule under the previous BRS government.

Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress-led People’s Government is now striving to realise the dreams of all sections of society, particularly students, youngsters, farmers, women, and oppressed castes.

Emphasising the government’s core principle, he stated, “Our policy is to generate more revenue and distribute the wealth to the poor,” adding that his administration is transparent and proactive in implementing reforms.

He announced that Telangana will soon introduce a welfare policy for gig and app workers, a first in the country.

Speaking of initiatives already undertaken, Revanth Reddy highlighted the launch of the Praja Vani programme, which enables citizens to voice their grievances directly to the chief minister, ministers, MLAs, and MLCs in weekly sessions. A transparent portal has been established to monitor the redressal of grievances.

Lists achievements

Telangana, the chief minister said, has achieved historic firsts under his leadership. It became the first state in India to conduct a comprehensive caste survey after nearly a century and introduced sub-categorisation within Scheduled Castes (SC) to address historical inequalities. Telangana also became the first government to recruit members of the third-gender community into the traffic police force.

On the infrastructure front, Reddy outlined major projects aimed at transforming Hyderabad into a global city. These include the development of a world-class Future City across 30,000 acres, the construction of a 370-km-long Regional Ring Road (RRR), and the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

He said these initiatives, along with the rejuvenation of the Musi River, are designed not only to modernise the city but also to create employment and boost tourism. The Musi River project, inspired by the rejuvenation of rivers such as the Hudson in New York, the Thames in London, and the Sumida in Tokyo, is set to become a major attraction.

Revanth Reddy underlined that Telangana has launched some of the biggest welfare schemes in India’s history. On August 15, 2024, the government waived off ₹20,617 crore worth of farm loans, benefitting 25.50 lakh farmers.

“Farmers receive 24-hour free electricity and an input subsidy of ₹12,000 per acre annually under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. Landless farm labourers also receive ₹12,000 annually, and the government provides an additional ₹500 bonus per quintal for farmers growing fine paddy varieties, along with minimum support prices (MSP) and crop insurance under the Rythu Bima scheme,” he said.

Upskilling the youth

In education and employment, the chief minister said, the government launched the Young India Skills University to enhance youth skills and filled 60,000 government posts within the first year of the People’s Government.

Further, the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Yojana was introduced to provide financial assistance to five lakh youth, he said.

In terms of economic growth, Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana currently enjoys the highest per capita income in India, the fastest job creation rate, the lowest inflation levels, and the highest growth in its own tax collections.

“Telangana is emerging as a hub for Global Competency Centres (GCCs), electric vehicles (EVs), and data centres, bolstered by over ₹2.5 lakh crore worth of investments secured from international forums in Davos, the USA, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore,” he said.

The two-day Bharat Summit concluded with Congress leaders and over 450 global delegates collectively adopting the Hyderabad Resolution, a 44-point agenda themed on ‘Delivering Global Justice’.

The statement of resolution reads that it reaffirmed a commitment to freedom, equality, justice, and solidarity, aligning with the vision of Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Patra. Key focus areas included reshaping the economic order, advancing environmental justice, promoting gender equality and social inclusion, defending democracy, working for peace and human security and reforming global institutions.
