Warner Bros. Discovery o set up IDC in Hyderabad

In a major entertainment boost for Telangana, IT & MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday, 17 May, announced that US mass media and entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery would be setting up its International Development Centre (IDC) in Hyderabad.

The proposed IDC is expected to generate employment for 1,200 people.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the global media and entertainment giant, is known for diverse content, brands, and franchises across television, film, streaming, and gaming.

KTR meets Warner leadership

KTR met Warner Bros. Discovery’s Senior Vice-President (Finance) Alexandra Carter at Warner Bros. Discovery.

“The discussions during this meeting highlighted the shared vision of both parties in driving growth and innovation in the media and entertainment industry, further solidifying their partnership for a promising future in Hyderabad,” a statement from KTR’s office said.

As per Telangana government sources, the IDC will employ 1,200 professionals in its first year of operation, expanding the workforce as the business grows.

The brands of Warner Bros. Discovery include names such as HBO, CNN, TLC, Discovery, Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, Cinemax, and Pogo.

“By establishing an office in Hyderabad, Warner Bros. Discovery aims to tap into the immense potential of the Indian market and leverage the city’s dynamic ecosystem for media and entertainment,” KTR’s office said.

WBD Stream unveiled

On Wednesday, Warner Bros. Discovery announced the launch of WBD Stream — a unified digital video offering available to advertisers in 2023-24.

WBD Stream is expected to offer access to the most popular and premium content across Warner Bros. Discovery’s sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and news verticals.

This apparently includes the websites and apps of brands like Bleacher Report, Food Network, TNT, Animal Planet, ID, and HGTV.

The stream will reportedly run across all OTT modalities, including mobile web and apps (iOS and Android), desktop, web, and CTV apps.
