Hyderabad police to probe new allegations of paper leak kingpin Praveen Kumar. Case shifted to SIT

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand on Tuesday, 14 March, transferred the TSPSC paper leak case to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) Crimes.

On Monday, the Hyderabad cops arrested nine people over allegations of the leaking of a Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper for the recruitment to the assistant engineer position.

“We have taken over the case and already started the investigation,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT) AR Srinivas, told South First.

“We will be verifying the reports about the allegations on Praveen Kumar (the alleged kingpin and PA to TSPSC Assistant Secretary Anita Ramachandran) that he collected phone numbers of women visiting the verification department where he worked and engaged in inappropriate behaviour with some of them,” he added when asked about these specific allegations.

As per local reports, the cops found evidence of this on Praveen Kumar’s phone, as well as naked pictures and videos of women.

Srinivas said that the cops were also looking into whether Kumar — who allegedly wrote the TSPSC Group-1 exam when he was a PA — leaked the question paper as well.

BJP alleges role of senior TSPSC officials

Meanwhile, Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar demand that the state government initiate a probe by a sitting judge into the incident.

As per Sanjay, “Since the role of several influential people — including senior officials of the TSPSC — are suspects, we request the state government to order a detailed probe by a sitting judge.”

He also urged Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to intervene in the matter and render justice to the unemployed youth.

“We strongly suspect a huge conspiracy in the case, and merely taking action against the TSPSC secretary’s personal assistant is nothing but an eyewash,” he said, asking how Praveen managed to leak the question paper.

Sanjay alleged that Praveen leaked the question paper and appeared for the same exam in a college in the city.

More surprisingly, he alleged, the college management changed the exam timings for the convenience of Praveen, besides releasing the OMR (optical mark recognition) answer sheet for him.

The Telangana BJP chief asked the state government to take serious note of the case, which he said was linked to the future of thousands of job aspirants who appeared for the exam.

Sanjay also suspected the involvement of a few leaders close to the family of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the case.

He sought to know the status of the question papers of exams that would be conducted in the next few months.

“This was not the first time that question papers were leaked in the state. Class 10 question papers were leaked in 2018, and later EAMCET question papers were leaked with the involvement of several employees of the private educational institutions,” he said.

Attempted siege at TSPSC office

Members of BJP’s Youth Wing Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress’ students’ union NSUI staged a protest in front of the office of TSPSC on Tuesday regarding the paper leak.

The protestors demanded the resignation of its Chairman B Janardhan Reddy, holding him responsible for the question paper leak.

Holding their party flags, the protestors raised slogans denouncing the failure of the TSPSC in conducting exams without any errors. The police later took them into preventive custody.
