Ministers take up development works at Jubilee Hills ahead of by-polls
Synopsis: Congress intensified its campaign in Jubilee Hills—now a key battleground in Telangana. With minority votes crucial, Congress ministers held multiple events to showcase development and consolidate support ahead of the by-election, which follows BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath’s death and is likely to be held alongside the upcoming local body polls
Just a day after announcing 42 percent reservations for Backwards Classes in the upcoming elections, the Congress amped up its presence in Jubilee Hills—a constituency now emerging as the epicentre of Telangana’s political battleground. The by-election, triggered by the demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June, is expected to coincide with the local body polls.
With a significant minority population, Jubilee Hills has become a high-stakes contest between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, both of whom are pulling out all the stops to consolidate their base.
In a clear show of strength, three Congress ministers—Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Labour Minister Vivek Venkat Swamy, and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao—attended four back-to-back public events across the constituency on Thursday, laying foundation stones and inaugurating key development projects.
At about 10:30 am, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Vivek Venkat Swamy, and Tummala Nageswara Rao visited the Mahakali Ammavari of Sri Ujjaini in Secunderabad along with the Governor. Following this visit, the three ministers laid the foundation stone for various development projects in the Jubilee Hills constituency.
The projects were spread across the constituencies’ neighbourhoods, including Vengal Rao Nagar, Shaikpet, and Yusufguda, among others. The following were the four projects inaugurated today:
This mobilisation from the Congress comes just two days after the BRS also held a meeting with its minority cell to discuss the Jubilee Hills by-election. In the meeting, Siddipet MLA and former Minister T Harish Rao held that Telangana Society was watching the constituency closely. He called on the community to reflect on the government’s performance and support the BRS.
With both primary contenders in the Constituency beginning to focus their efforts on Jubilee Hills, it seems like the constituency will serve as a litmus test for the Congress and BRS’s support in Telangana.
