Thieves who stole 432 mobile phones in Hyderabad worth ₹75 lakh arrested

The police identified the accused as members of the "Alam Gang", previously accused of looting huge amounts from banks and jewellery shops.

The police said they are searching for other members of the gang involved in the theft.

The Rachakonda Police on Thursday, 6 October, arrested two shoplifters from Jharkhand who allegedly broke into an electronics shop last month in Hyderabad and stole as many as 432 phones of brands like Apple, Oppo, and Vivo, said to be worth ₹75 lakh.

The police identified the accused as members of the “Alam Gang”, previously accused of looting huge amounts from banks and jewellery shops.

The two arrested have been identified as Sattar Shaikh (40) and Mohammed Asidul Sheikh (20), both natives of the Sahibganj district in Jharkhand.

The cops seized ₹80,000 cash and two mobile phones from the accused.

The police said they are searching for other members of the gang involved in the theft.

The absconding, also natives of the same place, are identified as Sayeed, Asharaul, Bhadruddin, and Beulah.

Interstate gang

According to the police, the accused broke into a Bajaj Electronics store at ECIL X roads in the city at around 11 pm on 20 September by drilling into the ceiling of the first floor.

“They removed the mobiles from the packaging and left with phones of various brands. After careful evaluation of footage from over 500 cameras by 10 police teams, we assessed the route taken by the accused from the Jawahar Nagar area along with their facial description,” the police said.

The cops also identified the auto-rickshaws that the accused used for conveyance between ECIL and Ambedkar Nagar.

After discovering that the accused come from Jharkhand, the police team went to Sahibganj and nabbed Sattar.

“On investigation, he disclosed the whereabouts of his aide Asidul, after which a team was sent to the Malda district of West Bengal to apprehend him,” said the cops.

The police said that Sattar is an accused in cases of theft registered in Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

One such case involves the stealing of gold worth ₹2 crore in May from the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.

What next after stealing?

The police said that the gang used to disperse in two groups and reach their native, where they kept buyers ready.

“They [the buyers] would take shelter on the border of countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal, and send the stolen items for disposal to them,” the cops said.

The Kushaiguda police station registered a case under IPC Sections 457 (trespass) and 380(theft) against the gang.
