Video Massive fire erupts near Hyderabad's Sun City in a tent house used as a crackers warehouse; no casualties, says cops

A suspected electrical short-circuit sparked a massive fire at a tent house in the Sun City area of Hyderabad’s Rajendranagar in the early hours of Saturday,11 November.

The police said the tent house was used as a warehouse to store firecrackers ahead of the Deepavali festival. No casualties or injuries have been reported.

“The fire broke out around 2.30 am. The owner was using the tent house to store crackers. Prima facie, we suspect that a short circuit led to the fire. Firefighters brought the situation under control within an hour or so,” B Nagendra Babu, SHO Rajdendernagar, told South First.

The flames also spread to a food court adjacent to the tent house and reportedly led to a cooking cylinder blast.

As per reports, three nearby shops were also gutted. No one was in the shops when they caught fire.

Previous fire incidents

The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad witnessed three major fire incidents in the recent past.

The inferno on 16 March at the sprawling Swapnalok Complex in Secunderabad killed 17 people.

On 19 January this year, the charred remains of three young men were found in the now-demolished Deccan Corporation building on Minister’s Road.

Eight people, mostly tourists, were killed on 12 September last year when a massive fire broke out at the Ruby Pride Luxury Hotel. The fire that started in an electrical vehicle showroom in the building, spread to the hotel.

Investigations into these fires had found that fire safety norms were flouted in all three cases.
