Synopsis: Tuppudu Lakshmi, a woman from Gokafasalwad village in Telangana’s Narayanpet district, returned from Oman after BRS working president K T Rama Rao intervened in her case. She had travelled to Muscat for work on 27 February but was allegedly duped by an agent, given a different job and prevented from returning after her employer seized her passport. After her son approached KTR on 29 September, he wrote to the officials concerned and arranged her return within a month, she said.
Tuppudu Lakshmi, a resident of Gokafasalwad village in Telangana’s Narayanpet district, returned to India after being stranded in Oman for months following an alleged job scam and personal intervention by BRS working president KT Rama Rao.
Gokafasalwad is located in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency. Lakshmi met KTR at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 3 November, to thank him.
“KTR Anna promised my son that he would bring me back within a month. He kept his word and brought me home. I can never forget what he has done for me and my family. My heartfelt thanks to KTR Anna,” she said.
Lakshmi had travelled to Muscat, Oman, on 27 February in search of work. However, the job she was given was different from what the agent had promised.
Her employer allegedly seized her passport and refused to send her back to India.
The agent who had arranged her travel stopped answering her calls and demanded ₹2 lakh to facilitate her return, according to the account shared by her family.
Her Wi-Fi and SIM card were also disconnected, cutting off contact with her family. She eventually managed to use a neighbour’s internet connection to contact her son, Raju, and tell him about her situation.
Lakshmi’s family alleged that she was subjected to repeated mental and physical abuse and kept in confinement. Raju said that approaching local leaders and government authorities was of no help, eventually prompting him to seek KTR’s assistance.
Raju approached KTR on 29 September and sought his help in bringing his mother home.
KTR assured him that he would secure her passport and arrange her return within a month. He subsequently wrote to the officials concerned and intervened in the matter.
