Telangana tragedy: 2 dead, several injured during BRS meeting in Khammam

Two people died and at least seven others sustained injuries in a fire accident near the venue of a BRS meeting at a village in the Khammam district on Wednesday, 12 April.

The incident occurred at Chemalapadu of the Karepally mandal during an Athmeeya Sammelanam meeting of the BRS.

Activists were bursting firecrackers on the arrival of Member of Parliament Nama Nageswara Rao and MLA Ramulu Naik when sparks from them fell on a hut.

An LPG cylinder kept inside the hut exploded due to it. Activists and police personnel were seriously injured when the cylinder exploded.

A policeman and two journalists were among those injured. A couple of the injured people lost their limbs in the explosion.

The injured were shifted to government hospital in the vehicles of the BRS leaders.

The incident caused panic among people.

BRS promises suport

Confirming the death of two people, Telangana Minister of Finance and Health T Harish Rao said that he spoke to the superintendent of Khammam Government Hospital and directed him to provide the best treatment to the injured.

If necessary, the minister ordered to move the injured to NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad and provide the highest level of medical care.

Nageswara Rao told reporters that the incident had nothing to do with the party meeting. He said the incident occurred 200 metres away from the meeting venue.

According to a doctor at the hospital where the injured were admitted, two person died and three others sustained burns.

Meanwhile, BRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed deep shock and sorrow over the accident.

According to statement from his office, he gave assurances that the families of the deceased would be supported in all possible ways.

He made it clear that the party would stand by them. He ordered to provide better medical services to the injured.

Meanwhile, BRS working preident KT Rama also said that the party would support the families of the deceased and the injured in all ways possible.
