Meanwhile, KCR also said the super-speciality hospital being built in Warangal would beat its Hyderabad counterparts in healthcare delivery.

Health profiling of people in all the 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana would be completed soon, helping them access better and more effective medical care Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said on Saturday, 1 October.

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating the Pratima Medical College and a cancer centre in Warangal, he said that the health profiling of people in the Mulugu and Sircilla Assembly segments had already been completed, and the work was in progress in the other constituencies.

He said: “Once the health profiling is done, it will become easy for the government to reach patients with the necessary medical treatment plan. By pressing a button on the computer, the doctor in the hospital would know the health profile of the patient and provide appropriate treatment.”

Better healthcare in Warangal than Hyderabad?

The chief minister, referring to the super-speciality hospital coming up in 180 acres of land of Kaktiya Medical College and the central jail, said that once the  24-storey facility was complete, it would beat even its Hyderabad counterparts in healthcare delivery.

“There would be no need for residents of Warangal to go to Hyderabad, while those in Hyderabad would rush to Warangal for treatment of complicated diseases,” the chief minister said.

The super-speciality hospital is expected to have about 2,000 beds, and the entire premises would be known as Warangal Medical City.

The state government recently reserved 85 percent of Category-B seats in MBBS and BDS courses for local students.

More medical colleges, seats

The chief minister, referring to the discrimination that Telangana had been subjected to by the rulers of the united Andhra Pradesh, said that after the bifurcation, the medical and health sector had made rapid progress in Telangana.

Telangana had only five medical colleges once, but that number has now gone up to 17, he said.

Though the Central government has not sanctioned any new medical college, the state government is setting up one each in all the 33 districts, he said.

When all these colleges are in place, the number of medical seats in the state are expected to go up to 10,000.

“At present, we have 6,500 seats in both private and government colleges as against just 2,800 seats prior to the bifurcation of the state. Even the number of PG seats has gone up to 2,500 from just 1,150 in united Andhra Pradesh,” said the chief minister.

He added that Telangana was showing the way for the rest of India in achieving progress. “Today the per capita income of Telangana is higher than that of Mumbai, the financial capital of the country,” KCR said, pointing out that there was immense scope for development of the nation as it has enormous natural resources.

“Around 50 percent of the land in India is cultivable, unlike in the US, where it is only 29 percent and China (16 percent). To irrigate the 50 percent of land in India, 70,000 tmcft of water is available, but these resources are yet to be exploited fully. India is an agrarian country, and yet farmers staged protests in Delhi for 13 months,” he said.
