Police registered a case under POCSO Act based on a complaint by the boy's father.
Synopsis: Three boys allegedly sexually abused a Class 5 student at the TGMRS Serilingampally Boys’ Hostel. The incident has further augmented concerns over the safety of children in residential schools.
The Dundigul police in Telangana have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against three school students for sexually abusing a 10-year-0ld boy.
The case was registered based on the complaint of the boy’s father.
The survivor and the accused persons were students of the Telangana Government Minorities Residential School (TGMRS) and Junior College in Serilingampally, a suburb located northwest of Hyderabad city.
Station House Officer M Bal Reddy said the survivor was a Class 5 student, while the two of the accused were Class 8 students, and one studying in Class 6.
The FIR invoked sections 5(g), 5(l), and 5(m) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. These sections cover penetrative sexual assault committed by two or more perpetrators, more than once or repeatedly, where the child victim is below 12 years old.
Section 6 prescribes rigorous imprisonment of not less than 20 years, extendable to imprisonment for the remainder of natural life, or death, along with a fine.
No arrests have been made so far, and the probe is under way.
Meanwhile, safety concerns are escalating at the minority welfare residential schools in Hyderabad.
In June 2026, a teenage girl at the TGMRS girls’ school in Golconda delivered a baby boy in the hostel bathroom and tossed the newborn out of a window, leading to the infant’s death.
The case drew widespread criticism from parents and civil society activists who questioned the negligence that had led to such an incident.
