Synopsis: A Telangana native, a master’s degree student, was shot dead in Milwaukee in the US state of Wisconsin. The incident took place at the store where Praveen Gampa was working part-time, where he was shot dead by unknown assailants.
A 26-year-old Indian student, a native of Keshampet in the Rangareddy district of Telangana, was shot dead in Milwaukee in the US state of Wisconsin.
The deceased, identified as Praveen Gampa, left for the US in August 2023 to pursue his master’s degree.
The incident took place on Tuesday, 4 March, at the store where Praveen was working part-time, where he was shot dead by unknown assailants. Further investigation is underway.

Praveen’s father told the media that he received a call early on the morning of Wednesday, 5 March, and upon following up, he learned about his son’s death.
“At 2.50 am (on Wednesday), I received a WhatsApp call but did not answer it. In the morning, I noticed a missed call and sent a voice message requesting a callback. I didn’t receive a reply for about an hour. Then, we called my son’s number. Someone else answered and said they had found the phone, asking about his date of birth,” he said.
“Suspicious, I ended the call and contacted his friends. They said they were also asked the same question and were informed about the incident. I urged them to go to the scene,” he added.
“Some thieves raided the store while he was working part-time there. He died in the subsequent shootout,” Praveen’s father said.
A similar incident occurred in January when 26-year-old Koyyada Ravi Teja was shot dead in Connecticut by unknown assailants.
