Telangana: Rangareddy government official arrested for demanding Rs 20,000 over PDS rice case

Synopsis: Deputy Tahsildar Hanuma Ravinder Naik, Telangana’s Rangareddy district, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on 9 December for accepting a ₹20,000 bribe to clear a PDS rice case and waive a fine, allowing a ration shop to reopen. The bribe was recovered and the officer produced before a special court.

A Deputy Tahsildar working with the District Civil Supplies Office in Kongara Kalan village, Rangareddy district, was nabbed by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday, 9 December, for accepting a ₹20,000 bribe in exchange for carrying out an official duty.

The officer in question, Hanuma Ravinder Naik, was caught red-handed by members of the ACB’s Rangareddy range team.

According to the ACB, Naik had demanded the sum from a complainant in order to resolve a case involving Public Distribution System (PDS) rice and to waive a penalty so that the complainant’s ration shop could reopen.

The bribe money was recovered from Naik’s possession during the operation.

He was arrested and brought before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally. The investigation continues, and the complainant’s identity is being protected for safety reasons.

QR codes placed in government offices and public areas also provide a direct means of contacting the bureau. The agency stressed that the identities of complainants will be kept strictly confidential.
