The Telangana police registered cases against two political leaders on Friday, 17 November, for allegedly offering money to voters during an election campaign.

The first case involves Satyavathi Rathod, the current minister of tribal, women, and child welfare from the BRS.

The Guduru police, based on a complaint filed by the Election Commission’s flying squad, registered an FIR under Section 171 E of the Indian Penal Code against her.

A police official stated that an investigation was underway to determine if the amount distributed was ₹4,000. It is to be noted that the distribution of money to voters violates the Model Code of Conduct.

Furthermore, videos circulating online show Rathod in conversation with a group of women, and later distributing currency notes to them.

Sources said that Rathod was being welcomed to the Kongaragidda village as part of the BRS election campaign.

Second case of votes of cash

In another case, the Special Operation Team of Balanagar in the Medchal district received information and apprehended a man said to be a follower of Kuna Srisailam Goud, a BJP candidate contesting from Quthbullapur, for distributing money to voters.

Jeedimetla Police Inspector of Police M Pavan told South First, “Our Special Operation Team has been alerted about money distribution to voters in the Quthbullapur constituency and we have inspected it.”

He added: “We found that money was being distributed along with voter slips. A man who used to work for a former BJP MLA has been caught with money and voter slips. This has been handed over to the flying squad of the Election Commission.”

It will be further verified whether the accused was a follower of the former BJP MLA and if the voters’ list was correct or not, he added.
