Synopsis: The police have constituted an SIT to probe the recent high-profile case involving a BRS leader and a TDP MP. The team comprises senior officers from multiple wings, including law and order, Greyhounds and the EAGLE anti-drug unit. The SIT has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive probe into all aspects of the case.
The Telangana Police appear determined to take the recent drug bust at a farmhouse in Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad to its logical conclusion, sources said on Tuesday, 17 March. The case pertains to a farmhouse owned by former BRS MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy, where he, along with the TDP MP from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav, and four others, was allegedly found to have consumed drugs last Saturday.
The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the high-profile case registered at the Moinabad Police Station. The case involves offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Arms Act, and other provisions.
According to a memorandum issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) on Tuesday, the SIT will investigate Crime No. 150/2026. The case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(a), 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, and other laws.
The SIT will function under the overall supervision of G Sudheer Babu, Commissioner of Police, Future City. The team comprises senior officers from multiple wings, including law and order, Greyhounds and the EAGLE anti-drug unit.
The members are: Yogesh Goutham, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Chevella; M Ravinder Reddy, Group Commander, Greyhounds; Ch Sirisha, DCP, Shadnagar; C Harish Chandra Reddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), EAGLE; N Buchaiah, DSP, EAGLE; Y Mallikarjun Reddy, Station House Officer (SHO), Moinabad (Investigating Officer); C Koteshwar Rao, Sub-Inspector (SI), Mokila; N Venkanna, SI, Moinabad; and Sadath Ali, SI, Shamshabad Rural.

The SIT has been asked to complete the investigation and file a charge sheet within three months. The Commissioner of Police, Future City, and the Director of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) have been instructed to ensure immediate follow-up action and extend full support to the SIT.
The formation of the SIT underscores the seriousness with which the Telangana Police are treating the case. The issue is also believed to have wider political ramifications.
The TDP sought an explanation from its MP, while the BRS has issued a show-cause notice to Rohit Reddy. Both parties reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards drugs. They have asked the two leaders to stay away from party activities to avoid tarnishing the party’s image.
Sources said the police are determined to get to the bottom of the case, with the state government giving them a free hand. Investigators have begun examining the links between Putta Mahesh Kumar and Namith Sharma, who allegedly opened fire at police during the raid at the farmhouse in Hyderabad.
The police suspect prior drug use and are probing the extent of the network. They are trying to establish how drugs were procured, distributed, and to whom.
Sources added that Namith Sharma tested positive for amphetamine and cocaine. Blood samples of Putta Mahesh Kumar reportedly showed traces of amphetamine and methamphetamine. The others who tested positive had traces of cocaine in their blood samples.
