Telangana State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy met Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Ram Mohan Naidu separately in Delhi on Tuesday, 11 March.
During the meetings, Minister Komatireddy shared that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured him that the pending issues related to the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project would be resolved within two months, with work set to commence soon.
The discussions covered several issues concerning the state, and Minister Komatireddy submitted memorandums requesting that the ongoing works be expedited. Speaking to the media later at Telangana Bhavan, he provided details of the discussions.
Komatireddy urged Gadkari to ensure that the Union Cabinet approves the RRR project. He mentioned that tenders for the northern section of the RRR were called on 27 December 2024, with an estimated budget of ₹7,100 crore, divided into five packages. The Minister requested Gadkari to accelerate the forest clearances and finalize the financial tripartite agreement. Additionally, Komatireddy urged the finalization of the alignment for the southern section, which is being constructed through Choutuppal, Amangal, Shadnagar, and Sangareddy.
Minister Komatireddy also discussed the issue of the Hyderabad-Srisailam Elevated Corridor with Gadkari.
“We need to construct a 62 km elevated corridor over the Amrabad Tiger Sanctuary on the 187 km Hyderabad-Srisailam road. As it is a forest area, development has not taken place here due to a lack of permissions. This elevated corridor will be very convenient for pilgrims visiting this holy place,” Komatireddy urged Gadkari. He also mentioned that Gadkari responded positively to the request for inviting tenders for the Somashila Cable Bridge.
“There are no projects under the mountain ranges in Telangana. In this context, we requested Gadkari to approve ropeway projects for the Yadagirigutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple (2 km), Bhongir Fort (1 km), Hanuman Hill in Nalgonda (2 km), a 5 km ropeway connecting Nagarjunasagar Dam to Nagarjunkonda, and the Ramagiri Fort in Manthani (2 km),” Komatireddy stated.
Komatireddy Venkatreddy also reminded Gadkari about the proposal made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for 12 road projects worth ₹887.45 crores under the CRIF-Sethubandhu scheme, which remains pending. He requested the approval of these projects in the 2023-24 financial year. “Traffic on National Highway 65, which is a key route between the capitals of the two Telugu states, is extremely heavy, and accidents are frequent. We requested to widen this road urgently,” Komatireddy added.
In response, Gadkari directed officials to take necessary steps to widen this road up to Machilipatnam in two packages.
Komatireddy further thanked Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for approving the Mamunur Airport in Warangal. He mentioned that ₹205 crore has been sanctioned for land acquisition, and the process will be completed in 15 days. Gadkari assured that the airport would be completed in two and a half years.
Prof. Yedavalli Lakshmi Srinivas has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Sammakka Sarakka Central University. The Ministry of Education, Government of India, issued the orders for his appointment. Currently associated with a private educational institute, Prof. Srinivas will serve as Vice-Chancellor for a term of five years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first.
In 2024, during the Samakka Sarakka Jathara, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Kishan Reddy said, that the Sammakka Sarakka Central tribal university was being set up with about ₹900 crore. The University of Hyderabad, a Central university, acts as the mentor for the tribal university.
The university is named after Goddesses Sammakka Sarakka, the presiding deities of the “Medaram jathara”.
Parliament in December 2023 passed a bill to establish the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Telangana after a nod from the Rajya Sabha. The tribal university is being set up as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
