The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for seven districts in Telangana on Wednesday, 2 April, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and possible hailstorms. The districts placed under Orange Alert include Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, and Medak.
In addition to the Orange Alert, the IMD has also placed 16 other districts, including Hyderabad, on Yellow Alert. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. The IMD has urged residents in these areas to stay cautious and prepared for adverse weather conditions.
This latest weather warning follows a similar one issued earlier this month. On 3 March, 16 districts across Telangana were placed under an Orange Alert, while 15 others were placed on Yellow Alert. The next day, 4 March, the entire state of Telangana was put under a Yellow Alert as the threat of thunderstorms and strong winds persisted.
The police resorted to lathi-charging students at the University of Hyderabad protest Teacher’s March on Wednesday.
Tensions escalated as the students raised slogans against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and the police asked the protestors to stop. This incident comes after Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu stated that the government was exploring peaceful dialogue with various student organisations.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed strong disapproval of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s alleged statement on the Floor of the House, claiming that no bye-elections would be held even if BRS MLAs defected to the Congress party.
According to the Livelaw report, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih, while hearing the petition filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy pertaining to the defection of three MLAs from his party to the ruling Congress party, noted, “If this is said on the Floor of the House, Your Hon’ble CM is making mockery of the 10th schedule.”
Justice Gavai further commented that something being said in “Ramleela Maidan” is different from something said on the Floor of the House.
He further said, “When politicians say something in the Assembly, it has some sanctity…in fact, the judgment(s) say that when we interpret laws, the statement of the Hon’ble Minister who has given speech on the floor of the House can be used for interpreting that statute”.
The bench then asked Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Telangana Assembly Speaker, to warn the chief minister that there shall be no “repeat action”, as the court may be slow in issuing contempt notices, but it is “Not Powerless”
