Summer has officially begun, and the state is already experiencing intense heat. The sun is blazing with high temperatures, causing discomfort to many. As the temperature continues to rise, the daytime highs have already crossed 40°C.
On Thursday, 13 March districts in the state recorded maximum temperatures above 40°C. Last year, on the same day, only two districts recorded temperatures above 40°C. This year, nearly half of the state’s districts are facing scorching heat.
The highest temperature recorded in the state on Thursday was 40.7°C in Lingapur, a village in Nirmal district’s Kadam Peddur mandal. This is the highest temperature so far this season.
On the other hand, Hyderabad recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 38.6°C. The Hyderabad Meteorological Center has warned that temperatures will rise further in the coming days.
An Orange Alert has been issued for several districts for Friday and Saturday, 14 and 15 March. A Yellow Alert has been issued for the remaining districts. The meteorological centre predicts that the daytime temperatures in these districts could range from 38°C to 41°C, with nighttime temperatures ranging between 19°C and 23°C.
Meanwhile, the schools in Telangana will operate until 12:30 PM until the last day of the academic year, 23 April.
All hell broke loose in the Telangana Assembly on Thursday, 13 March, when Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar suspended BRS member and former minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy from the business of the House till the end of the present budget session.
During the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address, Jagadeeshwar Reddy advised the Speaker to treat all the MLAs, including those of the Opposition parties, equally. Not stopping, he went a step further and said that the Speaker cannot act as though he owns the House. He said: “This House belongs to all. All the members should get equal opportunity. You are sitting there as an elderly person on behalf of all of us. The House does not belong to you.”
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, several other ministers, and Congress MLAs took serious objection to Jagadeeshwar Reddy’s comments and felt that they sought to demean the dignity of the Chair.
Tension escalated in the House when ruling party members loudly rejected BRS MLA Jagadeeshwar Reddy’s remarks, claiming he disrespected the Speaker. Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka called for his disqualification, while N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded stern action.
As tensions escalated, the Speaker adjourned the House. The BRS MLAs then met the Speaker at his chamber. BRS senior leader and former minister T Harish Rao told the Speaker that Jagadeeshwar Reddy did not insult the Chair. He only stated that the House does not belong to one person but to everyone.
When the House resumed, Sridhar Babu proposed Reddy’s suspension, which the Speaker accepted. BRS leaders, including KT Rama Rao, criticized the decision, calling it an attempt to silence the opposition. The BRS members later protested near the Ambedkar statue.
BJP leader and Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh on Thursday made sensational allegations against his own party leaders, creating a stir in Telangana politics.
He accused some senior BJP leaders from the state of secretly meeting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He questioned how the BJP would come to power in Telangana if such leaders continued their actions. Raja Singh suggested that for the BJP to come to power in the state, the old elements in the party need to be removed. He called for the party leadership to focus on this issue.
Raja Singh mentioned that many people in the Telangana BJP are acting as if the party belongs to them and that retiring such individuals would bring good days for the party. He clarified that this was not just his personal wish, but also the opinion of many senior leaders and activists.
Raja Singh also accused some senior party leaders of secretly meeting key leaders and the chief minister of whichever party is in power. He demanded that such leaders be removed from the party. He further emphasized that only when the BJP forms the government in Telangana will there be protection for Hindus.
Raja Singh, who has been distant from party activities for some time, has recently been expressing his dissatisfaction with the developments within the party. He openly stated that the state BJP leadership is largely controlled by the Reddy community. The Goshamahal MLA also suggested that only by giving adequate representation to the SC, ST, and minority communities in the party would the BJP be able to compete with Congress and BRS in the state.
He sent this suggestion to the party’s central leadership. He recently expressed his frustration over the election of BJP district presidents as well.
