Telangana IT, Industries and Commerce Minister D Sridhar Babu slammed the Union government for the “step-motherly treatment towards” the state over the approval of a semiconductor facility.

In a late-night post on X on Tuesday, 12 August, the minister expressed outrage over the Union government’s preference for Andhra Pradesh over Telangana.

“Telangana’s proposal is backed by ready-to-use land, approved subsidies, investor commitments and a clear implementation roadmap. Whereas no land has been allotted and groundwork remains incomplete in Andhra Pradesh,” Sridhar Babu said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh announced that the Union government sanctioned a semiconductor manufacturing facility in the state.

Slams the Union government

Sridhar Babu said the Telangana government had done everything a proactive state should do — from allotment of 10 acres of prime land at Maheshwaram to approval of all subsidies and the completion of every clearance in record time — to host a world-class advanced system and packaging facility.

“The company is investment-ready and has been waiting only for the India Semiconductor Mission approval. Yet, in a baffling display of bias, the Union Cabinet has greenlit a similar project in Andhra Pradesh where not even a single acre of land has been allotted,” he said.

He claimed that the development was not an administrative lapse but a blatant step-motherly treatment towards Telangana.

“A State with ready infrastructure, investor commitment and a clear execution plan has been side-lined in favour of an unprepared proposal existing only on paper. This selective approach defies logic, undermines fairness and sends a damaging signal to global investors about the Centre’s priorities,” Sridhar Babu said.

“Such politically motivated decisions are only an insult towards Telangana’s preparedness. We will not accept being denied our rightful place in the national semiconductor growth story,” he added.
