AI Global Summit in Hyderabad

The Telangana Government officially launched the “Global AI Summit 2024,” a major event centered on “Making AI Work for Everyone.” Taking place at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on September 5-6, the summit was inaugurated by Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and State IT Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu.

The summit has attracted 2,500 delegates from around the globe and features a lineup of AI thought leaders, including Sal Khan of Khan Academy, Daniela Combe from IBM, and Peter Diamandis from the XPRIZE Foundation. 

Over the two days, attendees will engage in a range of activities, including thought leadership sessions and panel discussions. Topics under discussion will address AI’s role in societal benefits, regulatory issues, and future developments in the field, with insights from organisations such as the World Bank, WHO, and NVIDIA.

A notable highlight of the event is the introduction of Telangana’s ambitious AI City project. Spanning 200 acres near Hyderabad, the AI City is set to become a key hub for collaboration between international tech leaders and local innovators, aiming to drive groundbreaking advancements in AI.

In his keynote address, Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu said, “The Global AI Summit 2024 is a pivotal event for Telangana, reflecting our dedication to innovation and solidifying our position as a leader in the AI sector.”

“Together, we will not just transform our state; we will redefine what is possible, making AI work for everyone and setting new standards for economic and technological excellence on the world stage,” he concluded. 

Takeaways from Day 1 of the summit 

The first day of the Global AI Summit 2024 delivered significant insights and developments as AI experts and industry leaders like Debjani Ghosh and Muralidhar Somisetty, among others, converged in Hyderabad.

Emphasis on AI for Social Good

Discussions highlighted AI’s potential to address pressing global issues. Speakers emphasised how AI can contribute to healthcare, education, and disaster response, presenting case studies on successful implementations of AI in these areas.

Regulatory Challenges

Panels explored the complex landscape of AI regulation. Experts debated the need for balanced frameworks that encourage innovation while safeguarding against misuse. The conversation underscored the importance of international collaboration in developing effective AI policies.

AI City Launch

Telangana’s ambitious AI City project was a major highlight. The 200-acre development, designed to be a nexus for AI research and collaboration, aims to attract global tech companies and nurture local talent. Innovative AI Applications

Several startup demos showcased cutting-edge AI technologies. Innovations ranged from AI-driven healthcare solutions to advanced natural language processing tools, demonstrating the applications emerging from the sector.

Day 2 will feature a lineup of high-profile panels and keynote speeches from leading AI experts. Expect in-depth discussions on emerging AI trends, future trajectories, and strategic insights from figures such as Sal Khan, Eric Smith and Dr. Devesh Ranjan 

A significant portion of the agenda will be dedicated to exploring AI ethics, governance, and responsible AI practices. Panels will address critical issues like data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and the societal impact of AI technologies.

The summit will continue to spotlight groundbreaking projects and solutions through startup demos and innovation showcases. These sessions will highlight the latest advancements in AI and provide a platform for emerging tech startups to present their cutting-edge technologies. Day 2 will also feature ongoing hackathons where participants will tackle real-world problems using AI.
