In a major reshuffle, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand passed an order transferring 69 inspectors to various departments.

According to the police, several senior officers participated in the process to decide on the inspectors’ suitability for Station House Officers (SHO) and other key positions.

A decision was taken by the top cops to transfer officers who have completed three years in the current place of posting, the police said.

This included inspectors in the role of SHOs of law & order (L&O), the traffic department, and officers working in other wings like the task force, special branch (SB), central crime stations (CCS), control rooms, and as the superintendents of police.

According to the cops, a comprehensive inquiry of the officers was conducted as a matter of policy before they were transferred into their new roles.

This comprised a background check of their personal life, reputation at work, ethics, and morality while discharging their duties.

The police commissioner pointed out the misconduct of erstwhile Maredpally SHO K Nageshwar Rao, in the alleged rape of a woman, and described it as “a criminal breach of trust”.

He cautioned all the officers to maintain the honour of the uniform and uphold professional values.

“Be an all-rounder in handling bandobusts (special arrangements), crimes, and addressing visitors, and ensure all officers under your charge follow discipline while discharging duties,” Anand told his men.

Khaki taint

The Hyderabad City Police on Saturday, 9 July, suspended Maredpally SHO K Nageswara Rao on allegations of raping a woman and later attempting to murder her to hide evidence of the crime.

He was arrested the next day and sent to 15 days of judicial remand.

The Vanasthalipuram police booked Rao under IPC Sections 452 (house trespass), 376(2) (rape attempt), 307 (murder attempt), and 365 (kidnap), as well as Section 30 of the Arms Act of 1959.

Meanwhile, the Rachakonda police suspended Malkajgiri CCS Sub-inspector Vijay Dharawath on 10 July after a rape and cheating case was registered against him on 7 July at the Miryalaguda Town 1 Police Station in Nalgonda district.

He was booked under IPC Sections 376 (2) n (a police officer committing rape), 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 417 (punishment for cheating).
