A Security guard at the Patancheru Area Hospital in the Sangareddy district of Telangana sutured a gash on the head of a patient.
The incident came to light when Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leaders shared the video.
The guards were forced to do the stitches as there were not enough doctors at the hospital, alleged the Yuva Morcha leaders.
“This is not the first such incident that happened in the district. The doctors at the area hospital behave rudely with the patients and leave them being treated by the nurses and watchmen. They are troubling people and not giving proper treatment and advice to patients,” BJYM Telangana vice-president Ashish Goud told South First.
“The superintendent of the hospital is the main culprit for this,” he added.
In the video, a security guard is apparently seen suturing a gash on the head of a patient.
Even the person who is recording the video is heard asking the security guard why he is performing the procedure.
The security staff replies that there is not enough manpower in the hospital.
District Coordinator of Health Services Dr Kohir Sanga Reddy told South First that the incident was from 14 January.
“A man sustained an injury in a road accident and was brought to the hospital. There were around 10-15 people along with him. They claimed to be his friends, but most of them were under the influence of alcohol,” said Sanga Reddy.
He added that the allegation that there was no doctor at that time in the hospital was false.
“There was a lady doctor on duty, along with the ANM staff. However, looking at the inebriate conditions of the friends of the patient, and the way they were talking, the doctors were scared and a security guard came to their rescue,” he said.
He added that Health Minister T Harish Rao had ordered a probe into the incident.
“The government will take action against the hospital staff if any negligence will found,” said Sanga Reddy.
