The boy's father lodged a complaint with the police, claiming that his son died of injuries caused by dog bites. An investigation is on.
A one-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Hyderabad, police said on Thursday, 1 February.
The incident occurred late on Wednesday, 31 January, when the child’s father and other family members were asleep in their hut in Shamshabad, they said.
However, it was not clear as to how the toddler left the hut, the police official said.
A passerby noticed around six dogs around the baby lying dead on the road and alerted the police, who reached the spot and found the boy with injuries on his body.
The boy’s father filed a complaint with the police, saying that his son died of injuries caused by dog bites. A case was registered and the investigation was on.
In February 2023, a four-year-old child being attacked by dogs caused widespread uproar among the citizens. The child, who was killed in the dog attack was identified as Pradeep, the son of security guard M Gangadhar from the Nizamabad district.
CCTV footage of the incident captured bone-chilling visuals of the incident on the premises of the car service centre where Gangadhar works.
In the video, a pack of three dogs could be seen charging towards the child after surrounding him.
While the terrified boy tried to escape, the dogs closed in and pushed him to the ground. They then started pulling at his clothes as the child struggled to break free. From the visuals, it appeared that Pradeep died on the spot.
In another incident on 11 January, 2023 in Hyderabad, a Swiggy delivery executive, Mohammad Rizwan, died after he fell from the third floor of a building in Banjara Hills after being chased by a customer’s dog.
The stray dogs issue has been prevalent in not only Hyderabad but many other cities across the country. In November 2023, 29 people were attacked by a stray dog in Chennai.
The dog that ran amok biting 29 people, including children and women, had rabies. It was beaten to death. The victims received anti-rabies treatment immediately.
