The event, promoted as a platform to celebrate women and showcase Telangana’s tourism potential, will feature a month-long itinerary, including visits to key cultural and historical landmarks.

The 72nd Miss World pageant, set to take place in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 7 May, will cost the state government up to ₹27 crore, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said on Thursday, 20 March.

Speaking at a press conference in Begumpet, he said the total cost of the event would be ₹54 crore.

‘Celebrating women’

The Congress-led state government has promoted the pageant as an opportunity to highlight Telangana’s tourism potential on a global stage. The event will span a month-long itinerary showcasing the state’s cultural and historical landmarks.

“Holding the Miss World pageant in Telangana is not merely a prestige issue. It is an opportunity to celebrate women worldwide, recognising their aspirations,” Minister Rao said.

“This year’s Miss World pageant is a celebration of women’s internal beauty and power of transformation. Beauty goes beyond physical looks. It is the strength of the spirit, elegance of the mind, and a vision to make a positive impact.”

He continued: “The role of women in constructing societies cannot be overemphasised. In Telangana, women have been the cornerstones of progress across different fields. They infuse tenacity into everything they do.”

Similarly, Pageant Director Steve Morley stated: “We are bringing all these nations to Telangana. We want to share the beauty of Telangana with the world; it is our call and responsibility. It may be a rising state now, but it will soon be number one.”
