Synopsis: Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced ₹1 crore accident insurance for electricity workers, calling it a historic first in India. At Praja Bhavan, he handed over a cheque and job letter to a deceased worker’s family. He credited CM Revanth Reddy and the “Indiramma” government, highlighting the scheme’s expansion from Singareni to electricity departments.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Monday, 26 May, announced that in a significant move hailed as a first-of-its-kind in the country, the Telangana government has granted accident insurance coverage worth ₹1 crore to electricity department workers.

Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu described the initiative as a historic milestone and a reflection of the “Indiramma” government’s commitment to worker welfare.

Speaking at Praja Bhavan, the deputy chief minister handed over a ₹1 crore accident insurance cheque to the family of Jogun Naresh, an electricity worker who lost his life in an accident while on duty under NPDCL (Northern Power Distribution Company Limited), along with a compassionate appointment letter to Naresh’s wife Ramesh Shrimati in the Electricity Department.

“This initiative was made possible only under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Indiramma government,” said Bhatti. “No previous administration has taken such a proactive, humane approach towards the welfare of electricity workers.”

He further stated that the accident insurance scheme, initially launched in the Singareni Collieries, has now been expanded to include employees of the electricity department—bringing a new sense of security and dignity to the workforce.

The deputy chief minister urged electricity staff to continue serving the state with dedication and acknowledged the efforts of NPDCL CMD Varun Reddy for effectively implementing the scheme. The event was attended by senior officials from the electricity and banking sectors, as well as government advisor Vem Narender Reddy.
