An In-Vitro Fertility (IVF) centre offering treatment was opened at the Government Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on Sunday, 8 October.
Telangana Home Minister Mahmood Ali inaugurated the centre at the hospital’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) unit. The facility is a part of three centres for which the Telangana government has sanctioned ₹16.5 crore (₹5.5 crore each). The other two facilities will be at Petlaburj Maternity Hospital and MGM Hospital in Warangal.
“The mother of a girl who was seeking help for the expensive IVF treatment met me recently. We can now direct individuals to the IVF centre at Gandhi Hospital. They should not worry since not a single penny will be charged for the treatment,” Ali said.
The minister said the centre’s work was to be completed by 9 December, but it was finished in 87 days instead of the planned 150 days.
The Chairman of Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMIDC), Errolla Srinivas, said with an efficient workforce, the necessary equipment for the centre was supplied within deadlines. He added that people who had earlier government hospitals were now opting for such institutions.
“It is a historic milestone as the Telangana government sets up the first government IVF (In-vitro fertility) center at Gandhi Hospital. Thanks to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s visionary leadership, expensive IVF treatments are now free, making services accessible and affordable to people. Telangana continues to lead the way, setting an example that the entire nation can follow,” Health Minister T Harish Rao said on X.

“The hospital has gynaecologists. We will be utilizing the services of assistant professors and embryologists will be hired.” Gandhi Hospital’s Superintendent Dr Raja Rao told South First.
The center, broadly divided into three zones — non-sterile, semi-sterile, and sterile — has all the necessary equipment.
The non-sterile zone has two counselling rooms with audio-visual recording facility, an ultrasound scanning room, and a pre- or post-operative ward with four beds.
The access-control system is installed at the entrance of semi sterile area and an air shower is set up at the sterile area. The IVF Operation Theatre and the Embryology Laboratory are equipped with 3,400 CFM Air Handling Unit (AHU), and 8.5 tonnes condensing units which ensure high-quality purified air 24×7.
